Danielle Theis is a medical student at Saint James School of Medicine.  She will be starting clinicals this fall and hopes to match into internal medicine in 2023.  Medicine will be her second career.  The wife of the most supportive man on earth and a homeschool mom of two amazing children, she was a CPA and worked in accounting for nearly two decades when a personal struggle with a complicated illness changed the trajectory of her journey.  Danielle looks forward to the day when she can help others navigate their chronic illnesses by thinking outside the box and by looking at the whole person.

We are excited that Danielle chose to be a part of AHEC Scholars! The AHEC Scholars program is designed for college-level health profession students interested in supplementing their education by gaining relevant knowledge and experiences in rural and underserved areas of SD. Program activities cover the following six Core Topics: Interprofessional Education, Behavioral Health Integration, Social Determinants of Health, Cultural Competency, Practice Transformation, and Current and Emerging Health Issues. Learn more about this free, prfoessional development program here.
