Meet one of our 2026 AHEC Scholars! This month, we are excited to feature Chad Wilkins, who is a nursing student at Dakota Wesleyan University. Welcome Chad!
Hello, my name is Chad Wilkins. I’ve lived near Rapid City for ten years. After careers in the Navy and as an accountant, and in light of the need for healthcare professionals, I felt called to become a registered nurse. I am currently halfway through my RN program at Dakota Wesleyan University in Rapid City. I currently work as a boxing coach and at a local brewery while I pursue my degree. Serving the community and leaving a positive impact are important to me. Coaching lets me do that in one way, and I look forward to helping even more as a nurse. The WRAHEC Scholar program opened my eyes to numerous ways to utilize my skills in communities where there is a critical need. Rural communities and places with high poverty are the most underserved while also having some of the highest healthcare needs, and I see myself serving these people in the future.
