Monthly AHEC Scholar Profile - November 2023
– By #Annette Hill
Meet two of our 2022 AHEC Scholars! This month we are excited to feature Ava Krush and Bry Bach, both BSN students at SDSU in Rapid City.
Ava Krush - SDSU BSN student
My name is Ava Krush and I am currently attending South Dakota State University college of nursing. I will graduate in December 2024! I grew up in Rapid City and Hot Springs, South Dakota. I graduated from Hot Springs High School in 2021. I spent one year in Brookings, South Dakota and then came back to Rapid City to start the SDSU nursing program. I am going into nursing because I love working with people and seeing others get better. I worked at Fall River Health Services as a certified nurse aide during high school which is where I decided I wanted to pursue nursing. I now work at Monument Health on the Progressive Care Unit and have found it very intriguing. I love spending time with my family and friends. I also love animals and spending time outside.
AHEC has provided me with many opportunities and experiences that I have found very beneficial. I have been able to tour different areas in South Dakota and learn so much about a variety of topics. I would not be able to have insight to the unique characteristics of different areas of South Dakota without being a part of AHEC. This will help me greatly when I am a nurse and has helped me as a nurse aide. I am able to use my experience to share with others and connect more with the people I am in contact with from a variety of backgrounds.

Bry Bach - SDSU BSN student
My name is Bry Bach. I have been a nurse aide at Monument Health Hospital for almost three years, and I am a Semester 3 nursing student at SDSU-RC. I am a mom of a toddler girl, and I live with my boyfriend of one year/best friend of ten years and my four-year-old cat, Loki. I spend most of my time either at the hospital as a nurse aide, as a nursing student, or learning about nursing in a lecture hall. I think this clearly expresses my love for the field of nursing!
